Project
OBJECTIVE
Launched on 1 March 2018, TERO – Territoires Engagés pour la Résilience des Oasis (Territories Engaged for the Resilience of the Oases) is a project that aims to strengthen oasis communities’ resilience to climate change in Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia, through the involvement of young local volunteers.
PARTNERS
Thanks to the coordination of France Volontaires in Paris, the project is a collaboration of AOFEP – Association Oasis Ferkla pour l’environnement et le Patrimoine (Ferkla Oasis Association for the Environment and Heritage) in Morocco, ASOC-Association de sauvegarde de L’Oasis de Chenini (Chenini oasis protection association) in Tunisia, Association TENMIYA in Mauritania, CARI– Centre d’actions et réalisations internationales (International action and accomplishment center) in France and FOCSIV in Italy.
The project also supports the wider network activity of RADDO – Réseau Associatif de Développment Durable des Oasis (Associative Network for Sustainable Oasis Development). Created in 2001 by CARI, it brings together organisations active in the oases of the entire Maghreb to promote sustainable development and conservation of the place as a economic, ecological, cultural and social heritage for humanity.
ACTIVITIES
In the two years of the project, the partners aim to:
● Strengthen the capacities of organizations of the Maghreb involved about the capacity to mobilize young volunteers in their activities and governance;
● Create synergies between youth organisations and environmental protection organisations active on the oases issues;
● Train young volunteers on prevention of risks related to climate change;
● Raise awareness among the communities of Morocco, Mauritania, Tunisia and Europe on the means of combating climate change.
The TERO project provides the general public with a better understanding of the “oasis system” and its importance in combating desertification, food security and sustainable resource management. Oases are a model for adapting to climate change.
FUNDING
The project is funded by the EU Aid Volunteers Initiative. This capacity building project aims to develop the skills of Third countries organisations to enable them to host international volunteers in the future.
