Oases are subject to many pressures such as water scarcity, declining biodiversity and the impacts of climate change. However, this is the place where millions of people live, an important source of ancestral know-how.

In Tunisia, oases are not recognized and are not sufficiently protected.

Following this observation, a collaborative work was carried out between the Association de Sauvegarde de la Medina de Gafsa (ASM Gafsa), the association IRADA de Tozeur, the association Nakhla de Douz, the Association de Sauvegarde de l’Oasis de Chenini Gabès (ASOC) and the Association Citoyenneté et Développement Durable de Gabès (ACDD).
This collaboration made it possible to write a Position paper in 3 languages for the “establishment of a specific legal framework for the oases of Tunisia” so that the oases can emerge from the marginalization of which they are victims.
